City To Start Hunt For New Police Chief
From the News Review, November 7, 1968
Roseburg will begin advertising for a new chief of police this week, according to City Manager Keith Martin, but the city will probably be without a chief for 45 to 60 days early next year.
Since Roseburg Police Chief John Truett has been elected Douglas County Sheriff, Martin said, a search must begin for a successor. Rather than rush the matter, a final decision probably won’t be made until Feb. 1 to allow for all interested persons to respond, he said. He estimated it would be March 1 before a new chief would actually begin work.
Martin said advertisements would be placed in national and regional trade publications to attract qualified candidates for the position. Selection, he said, will be made on the basis of experience, written examinations and interviews. Law enforcement experts will be requested to participate in screening applicants, Martin said, along with representatives from the community. Final approval of the new chief will be made by the City Council.
